After the last fitness testing day i was asked to get some age related fitness comparisons, so each player could bench mark their results against national standards. Tony Sephton is Head of Health Fitness & Performance at Hertfordshire University & is a Strength and Conditioning Coach For the EIS East Region.

What is Strength & Conditioning and how will in work at Batchwood HPC?

It’s is the physical and physiological development of Athletes for elite sport performance. My job is to train athletes to get faster, stronger, more flexible so they perform better and steer clear of injuries.Strength & conditioning encompasses the entire development of an athlete and what is needed to improve physical performance. This includes training methods like plyometrics, speed and agility, endurance, strength training and core stability.As a Strength & Conditioning coach I will work along side the main tennis coaches at Batchwood, and help support the tennis programme by designing a comprehensive training programme that will target the physical need of tennis identified by the main coaches and myself.The Strength and Conditioning programme at Batchwood is supported via our regional LTA Strength & Conditioning Coach, Alexandra Reid.
