Barry has been at Batchwood since 1994 when he started playing tennis there at the age of fourteen. He was an Academy tennis player and played on the national circuit as a full time player for two years before he took up a coaching role at the centre. Barry has worked as a key performance coach at Batchwood for the past nine years. During this time he has successfully completed his DCA and CCA coaching awards.
In his role as a performance coach he has travelled extensively with players to ETA, ITF and WTA international tournaments. His coaching protégées include Katy Dunne (ranked no 2 nationally in 12U age group). Barry has coached Katy from the age of six until now. Barry is a key coach to the younger talented players at the centre who he develops from mini tennis players into top ranked national juniors. Indeed his ambition along with the team at Batchwood is to develop international competitors who are ‘home grown’ from the mini tennis programme.
My ambition is to pass my PCA coaching award and produce players from mini red tournaments to competing in the 12 and under nationals.
