Level 1 Coaching Assistant course

We at the LTA are dedicated to providing the best progressive development programmes for coaches at every level. At Level 1 you get the highest quality tuition in coaching Ariel Mini Tennis in a supervised environment – ensuring we start you off on the right foot. 

The title of the course is the Level 1 Coaching Assistant course and has UKCC (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate) endorsement. This course is a qualification and successful candidates will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Tennis awarded by 1st4sport.

The Level 1 Coaching Assistant course focuses on the tools you need to help beginners play Ariel Mini Tennis. It will help you develop your communication and organisational skills and it also covers the basic tactical/technical skills needed for beginners to compete at Ariel Mini Tennis. The course also covers issues of health and safety, child protection and equity.

The structure of the course is 21 hours of tuition with LTA qualified tutors. This will usually take place over two consecutive days.  There is then a three-to-six week break followed by a final assessment day.

The cost of the course is £135. This is inclusive of all training days and resources, but not food and travel.

How to apply

To be eligible you must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the course and you will need to complete the application form and return it with the full fee.

Also, you must have a Crimimal Records Bureau (CRB) Enhanced Disclosure processed through the LTA, or have applied for one. The LTA cannot accept CRB Disclosures from any other organisations.

Furthermore, you must have attended or enrolled on a three-hour LTA Child Protection workshop or a recognised equivalent. (Please see the downloadable document on Child Protection workshops.)

Please note you will need to pass the Level 1 Coaching Assistant course if you wish to take the Development Coach Award (DCA). 

If you’re already a Tennis Assistant (TA) – what does this mean for you?

• If you have already attended the Tennis Assistants course you may opt to enrol on to the DCA course if you want to make coaching a full-time profession and meet the DCA criteria.
• Alternatively, you can enrol onto the Level 1 Coaching Assistant course if you would like a qualification.
